Supervision
Exploring the threads of your
practice
Looking for a supervisor?
Wondering what you really need from supervision?
I supervise counsellors - and I supervise others.
I believe that supervision, as a regular practice, supports you to work at your growing edge, with increasing self-awareness and resilience. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect and learn. At the heart of supervision with me is our collaborative relationship, built on curiosity, trust and honest conversation. I offer a space to explore interwoven stories: your story, the stories that emerge through your work, and the stories of those you work with.
Some work asks a great deal of us. Supervision supports you to do the difficult, to achieve, grow and stay afloat in challenging times.
Finding the right fit matters. Take a look around my website and ask yourself: Could I work with Andrea?
I'd be pleased to hear from you.
How we work together
Each supervision conversation is different. Sometimes we will spend time with a particular client or project; sometimes with professional relationships, ethical dilemmas or organisational dynamics; sometimes with what is happening for you as the practitioner. We will make sense of complexity, and continue growing.
My supervision practice is shaped by my training in collaborative supervision, the Seven-Eyed Model of supervision, and more recently Robin and Joan Shohet's work on creating transformative conversations.
We will hold in mind the three complementary functions of supervision:
-
formative – developing skills, deepening knowledge and reflective practice
-
restorative – creating space to explore challenges, uncertainty and the emotional impact of your work
-
normative – supporting safe, ethical and accountable practice.
Who I work with
I believe anyone whose work centres on people can benefit from supervision — whether through helping, caring, teaching or creative practice.
I'm particularly interested in extending supervision beyond the professions where it is traditionally established, into areas where reflective practice can make an equally valuable contribution.
I currently supervise people from a range of professional backgrounds, including:
-
counsellors in training and experienced practitioners
-
palliative care social workers
-
clinical nurse specialists
-
middle managers in health care
-
creative practitioners
Whatever your professional background, we will shape the supervision around your role, your context and the ethical frameworks within which you work.
A final comment ... weaving, mixing and matching
You will probably have noticed, from clicking around my website, that I like to weave and mix and match approaches. I enjoy bringing different strands into our work, whilst always being clear about what we are here to do. In this case, that’s supervision.
For example, I might offer a Constellation as an option for bringing clarity to a supervision dilemma. At other times a coaching style approach might bring movement into our work. A nature-focused practice — as described on my coaching page — might offer another perspective. We can talk about what might be useful.
Whatever we bring into the work, we won't lose sight of the fact that it needs to serve our supervision work together.

Photographs on this page show a wall hanging I brought back from Jaipur some years ago. Made from multiple scraps of fabric, intricate patterns and careful stitching.
